A family of about 12 genera and about 475 species, most of them in the genera Aristolochia and Pararistolochia, pantropic but with species extending into temperate areas; 2 genera occur naturally in Australia.
Aristolochia - A genus of about 300 species, pantropic. Six species occur naturally in Australia and four species are naturalised. Ding Hou (1984); Ross & Halford (2007).
Pararistolochia - A genus of over 31 species in Africa, Malesia and Australia; seven species occur naturally in Australia. Parsons (1996); Ross & Halford (2007).
