Stem

Conspicuous, transversely elongated speckles readily visible in the blaze. Bark rather hard and horny to cut.

Leaves

Leaf blades about 7-12 x 3.5-5.5 cm. Basal pair of veins well developed and extending 3/4 or the full length of the leaf blade. Numerous small oil dots visible with a lens. Leaf blade unequal-sided particularly towards the base. Stipules caducous.

Flowers

Male flowers: Inflorescence paniculate with up to 150 flowers, each flower about 2 mm diam. Stigmatic areas bilobed in female flowers. Female flowers: Flowers solitary or in few-flowered inflorescences. Hermaphrodite flowers: Inflorescences with about 5-10 flowers, each flower about 2-3 x 1 mm.

Fruit

Fruits globular, about 11-13 mm diam., endocarp pitted on the outer surface. Cotyledons broad, folded.

Seedlings

Cotyledons large, apex divided into two large acute lobes. At the tenth leaf stage: leaves +/- narrowly ovate, apex acuminate, leaf blade unequal-sided; stipules +/- narrowly triangular, +/- peltate, papery, caducous.

Distribution and Ecology

Occurs in CYP. Altitudinal range from sea level to 100 m. Grows in gallery forest. Also occurs in Malesia and the Solomon Islands.
