Dischidia litoralis Schltr.

Stem

A slender vine not exceeding a stem diameter of 2 cm.

Leaves

Twigs, petioles and leaves produce a milky exudate. Leaf blades thick and fleshy, about 20-32 x 13-15 mm, petioles about 1-2 mm long.

Flowers

Inflorescence a compound raceme. Sepals about 1 mm long. Corolla tube about 1.5 mm long, inflated below the throat, about 1,5 mm long. Anthers ending in a terminal appendage. Style head (stigma) conical.

Fruit

Fruits slender, about 50-55 x 3 mm. Seeds about 2.5 mm long, plumes about 20 mm long. Cotyledons about 1.2 mm long, wider than the radicle. Radicle about 1 mm long.

Seedlings

Features not available.

Distribution and Ecology

Known in Australia from a collection made on Dauan Island in Torres Strait. Altitudinal range not known but appears to extend from sea level to 200 m. Grows as an epiphytic vine in rain forest and similar areas. Also occurs in New Guinea and other parts of Malesia.
